Day 2: Full-Day Exploring Chefchaouen

Indulge in a leisurely breakfast at your hotel/Riad in Chefchaouen, setting the stage for a day filled with enchanting exploration within the confines of the charming Medina. Begin your journey from the strategic Utta el-Hammam Square, nestled at the heart of the Medina, where centuries of history converge in a vibrant tapestry of culture and tradition. Consider a visit to the adjacent Kasbah, erected by Moulay Ali Ibn Rashid in the 15th century as a bastion against Spanish and Portuguese incursions, delving into the storied past of this ancient citadel.

Allow yourself to be enveloped by the mystical allure of the blue-painted streets, where every corner holds a tale waiting to be discovered. Traverse past local bakeries, quaint shops, and the joyful laughter of children echoing through the labyrinthine alleys until you reach the panoramic Ras el-Ma Spring. Here, amid the cultural hubbub, witness women washing clothes and carpets in the babbling stream, a timeless tradition that lends a sense of authenticity to the atmosphere. For a heightened experience, consider embarking on a gentle uphill hike, rewarding yourself with a panoramic vista of the azure-hued Medina sprawled below.

As the day unfolds, make your way back to the bustling square, where tantalizing culinary delights beckon for a leisurely lunch, fueling your spirit for the adventures that await in the evening hours. Immerse yourself once more in the captivating ambiance of Chefchaouen, as you continue your journey of discovery through its captivating streets and hidden treasures.

Today, our journey carries us further southward to the mysterious city of Fes, passing through the Roman Ruins of Volubilis, where you’ll enjoy a guided walking tour, discovering the ancient remnants of Roman civilization in North Africa.

Continuing our path, we arrive in Meknes, another captivating city founded by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, earning it the moniker “Versailles of Morocco.” Our exploration begins at the majestic Bab Mansour, renowned as one of the world’s most beautiful gates. Wander through the bustling olive market and vibrant El-Hedim Square, soaking in the lively atmosphere.

Drive along the walls of the Royal Palace, and explore the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, before visiting the granaries and stables where the Sultan once cared for his 12,000 horses.

In the late afternoon, we journey to Fes via the highway, where we will spend our third night, eagerly anticipating the mysteries and wonders that await in this historic city.

They proudly share their cultural heritage through the rhythmic beats of Gnawa Music, a mesmerizing fusion of drums and castanets.

If our day expedition coincides with the traditional weekly market in Rissani, seize the opportunity to explore the bustling Souk, where vibrant stalls brim with an array of goods, from dates and spices to fresh produce. In the afternoon, we return to the hotel to prepare for a camel trek to the camp nestled amidst the sands of Erg Chebbi.
